1. Remove base cover and insert 3 AA batteries by twisting
2. Firmly push the refill bottle upright until you hear it click in, and secure the top of the refill in place, then remove refill cap
3. Replace the base cover back onto the device
4. Turn on device with slider (blue light will flash) and select intensity setting
